Worship Retreat
Message Statement and Values:
Unabridged Worship is complete. We bring our hearts and minds, our skills, and our commitment
to one another and the congregation. Worship is a state of mind and can translate into how we
work together.
Values Expressed this year:
• Unity: The need for unity through worship leads us to the need for unity within the worship
team.
• Complete and True Worship: Worship is a personal connection to God through the
recognition of God’s power and reign.
• Musical Skill: Our expression of worship is an offering, and we want to give our best.
However, worship is about the heart. Our pursuit of skill is not for vanity but for the effective
facilitation of corporate worship. How we play together is an expression of this value balance;
the tensions between Heart and Head, between Worshiper and Musician.
Workshop Summary
Instrumental Skill Development:
• We’re bringing back and expanding basic and advanced workshops for keys, electric &
acoustic guitar, bass, drums, vocals, vocal leadership, and stage presence.
• We’re also bringing back our crack tech team, again covering the basics and getting the chance
to work with live mixing.
• New this year is a workshop for finding, developing, and playing with loops.
• Also new this year are workshops focused on crucial instrumental relationships within the
band, including playing with multiple guitar, drums and bass, and overall arrangements.
Visual and Performing Arts:
• This years conference will include workshops addressing video production as well as lighting
and lyric displays.
• We also will be exploring the dramatic arts including performance, lighting, and set design.
• Nothing compares to the beauty of God’s creation, but many artist use painting, photography,
and digital art to worship. We’ll be discussing how to bring these artists into a worship
ministry.
Teamwork, Leadership, and Personal Growth:
• Last year’s team workshop was packed, so this year we are expanding this topic to include
topics of discovering your contribution to the team outside of the instrument you play and
understanding healthy conflict.
• Worship leaders wear many hats: administrator, pastor, leader, friend. We’ll address the
practical matters of administering a team as well offering workshops in developing personal
and team devotionals, servant leadership, and creating a team vision.
• Music has a unique way of reaching people. We’ll be discussing how to create an outreach
team with your music team.
